Sawmill 25 takes the leading position among woodworking enterprises of the North-West of Russia. The plant is mainly occupied with production and export of kiln-dried sawn goods. Production of pulp chips comes as by-production. The plant specializes in processing of coniferous wood (65% and 35% of the total production volume is raw spruce and pine, correspondingly). Production of Sawmill 25 is noted for its constantly high quality. Every day the mill is consistently working on the quality of its products. Today the mill is spreading its business activity worldwide: apart from domestic market, its products are exported to Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark, Israel. The exported production is shipped from mill’s own quays and delivered to customers by sea. JSC “Northern Shipping Company” (Arkhangelsk, Russia) and the “Wijnne& Barend`s” company (Netherlands) are the main partners of Sawmill 25 in the sphere of sea transportation. The plant has got two production units – Maimaksa and Tsiglomen. Total production area of the sawmill is 138.9 ha. The Maimaksa site is located in the Maimaksansky district of the city of Arkhangelsk on the right bank of the Maimaksa River (a navigable armlet of the Northern Dvina River), westwards of the Povrakulsky peninsular. It is 20 km away from the city center; the bank line of the plant is 2.5 km long. The Tsiglomen site is located in the settlement of Tsiglomen, outskirts of Arkhangelsk, on the left bank of the Nikolsky arm of the Northern Dvina River; length of its bank line is 3 km. Aggregate capacity of the two production units is such as to allow to process more than 840 thousand cubic meters of logs per year. The Maimaksa production unit The production unit complex includes: Sawmill facility: a log feeding and sorting line, conveyor systems for by-products of sawing by AS “Hekotek” (Estonia), a debarker machine by “Valon Kone OY” (Finland), a profiling line by “Linck Holzverarbeitungstechnik” GmbH (Germany), and a green sorting line by “Lekopa OY” (Finland);10 periodical chambers, 5 continuous tunnels, sawn timber grading and packaging line;CHP plant; Wood pellets plant; 3 “Valmet” kilns (two with 6 and one with 5 chambers), a trimming and marking line, a "Plan-Sell” dry sorting and packaging line; 230 meter-long ferroconcrete berth with a 12 m wharf wall; 3 portal cranes for loading of sawn wood products aboard of ships; 2 finished products storehouses having general capacity of 30 thousand cubic meters of sawn goods; Boiler-house with five boilers (3 sawdust and 2 mazut), supplying heat to the sawmill facility and to off-site organizations and population; Repair base and energy management system; Motor transport shop providing transport for the work process and cargo transportation services for off-site organizations. The Tsiglomen production unit The production unit complex includes: Sawmill facility: “Lekopa” log feeding and sorting line with an in-built VK 550 debarker machine with 24 boxes, a shop with four frame lines, a shop with two chipper-canter lines, an LTS-16 green sorting line; Packaging and loading department: sticker and stacker, 5 Valmet tunnels, 2 grading and packaging Plan-Sell lines (Finland),semi-mechanical sorting line; 360 meter-long ferroconcrete berth equipped with two portal cranes; 4 finished products storehouses having general capacity of 36 thousand cubic meters; Boiler: 2 boilers, 2,5 MW each, running on bark and sawdust, providing heat to the production; Own mechanical workshop and power lines; Motor transport shop providing transport for the work process and cargo transportation services for off-site organizations. Sawmill 25 is the largest sawmill in the North-West of Russia. The plant is unique not only for its production volumes, but also for the scale of its modernization commenced in 2003. The first stage of production modernization has been successfully completed in June 2004 with launch of a modern sawmilling facility on the basis of a profiling line supplied by the German company “Linck Holzverarbeitungstechnik” GmbH. The facility has been additionally equipped with log sorting, debarking and green sorting by “Lekopa OY” (Finland), “Valon Kone OY” (Finland), AS “Hekotek” (Estonia). The construction of a new biofuel boiler from “POLYTECHNIK” (Austria) was completed in the end of 2005 at Tsiglomen production unit. In 2007 the second stage of production modernization at Maimaxa production unit was completed by starting new kilns, timber grading and packaging line. In February 2008 Sawmill 25 completed construction of CHP running on sawmilling waste. Production of wood pellets was started in May 2008. The wood pellet plant is built for pressing ground sawdust received from sawmilling into wood pellets (fuel pellets). Sawmill 25 strictly conforms to all requirements of the environmental legislation of Russia. The plant does its best to minimize harmful effects of production on the environment by way of constant improvement of technologies it utilizes. The production modernization is aimed not only at obtaining economical effect, but also at reduction of energy consumption, minimization of harmful emissions, prevention and elimination of other ecological risks. As the mill is using timber logged in forests of the North, environmental value of which is hard to overestimate, Sawmill 25 fully recognizes its responsibility for preserving nature and rational use of its resources. In its work and while determining development priorities, the mill adheres to all environmental and nature protection requirements of the Russian law. It keeps partnership relations with non-governmental environmental organizations like Greenpeace and WWF. Sawmill 25 is a member of the Association of Ecologically Responsible Forest Users of Russia. Aiming to satisfy world market demands, administration of Sawmill 25 has performed voluntary forest certification by standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). By its results the plant was granted with the FSC Chain of Custody Certificate under registration number SW-COC-001716. Such certification is of crucial importance for an export-oriented enterprise that we are, it helps to strengthen our positions on environmentally sensitive markets of Western Europe. Beside that, this measure is aimed at promoting the sustainable forestry principles adopted by enterprises of the “Titan” Group .
